[Q. AT WHAT POINT DO YOU THINK SOMEONE SHOULD CALL THEMSELVES A WRITER?

:-I donā€™t think you have to be an author or even write for a living to call yourself a writer. For me, itā€™s all about passion and how writing makes you feel about yourself. If you love writing and it brings you happiness, then be proud and shout it from the rooftops.

Q. WHAT DIFFERENCE DO YOU SEE BETWEEN A WRITER AND AN AUTHOR?

:-Personally, I think the only difference between a writer and an author is validation. Everybody has to start somewhere, and the worldā€™s best selling authors were all writers who received that magical call or email from a publisher and then began their journey.

Q. AVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED WRITING UNDER A PSEUDONYM, AND WHY OR WHY NOT?

:- Iā€™m sure there are many reasons why some authors choose to write under a pseudonym, but the thought simply never crossed my mind. Plus, seeing your own name written on your book cover is a truly wonderful feeling.

Q. WHAT DO THE WORDS “WRITER’S BLOCK” MEAN TO YOU?

:-The words – writerā€™s block mean very little to me. I wish Iā€™d started writing much sooner as I have so many ideas and stories that I honestly donā€™t know if Iā€™ll have enough time to write them all down. I canā€™t imagine ever not having a story to tell.

Q. HOW DO YOU PROCESS AND DEAL WITH NEGATIVE BOOK REVIEWS?

:-Iā€™m still waiting for my first negative review, which Iā€™m sure I will have to deal with at some point. I think itā€™s important to understand that we all have different tastes, thoughts and opinions. Thereā€™s not a book in the world that hasnā€™t received a negative review for some reason or another. When my time comes, I will try not to take it too personally and learn from it.

Q. WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF YOUR WRITING PROCESS?

:-The most challenging part of my writing process is conquering my own self-doubt. I struggle with this while Iā€™m editing and often second guess myself. Itā€™s just about having the confidence to say – yes, Iā€™m leaving that part in and then sticking to it.

Q. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WRITING OR WHEN DID YOU START?

:-I have only been writing for a couple of years but wish with all my heart that I would have started much sooner. For me, it was all about finding the right environment to work in, but once Iā€™d found it and began, I couldnā€™t stop.

Q.WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A WRITER WORKING ON THEIR FIRST BOOK?

:-I would advise aspiring authors to always believe in themselves and get organised. Make plenty of notes on a separate page so you can refer back to them. Thereā€™s nothing more frustrating than searching through hundreds of pages to find that character who youā€™ve now decided has blue eyes instead of green.

Q. WHAT COMES FIRST FOR YOU –THE PLOT OR THE CHARACTERS — AND WHY?

:-The plot and characters are a package deal for me as they both come at once in my mind. If I think about my ideas for new stories, each plot already has its main character(s) waiting for me.

Q. HOW DO YOU DEVELOP YOUR PLOT AND CHARACTERS?

:-Developing the plot and characters is a process. When I have the basic plot and characters mapped out, I begin figuring out what defines my characters. Is my character kind and compassionate, or are they selfish and flawed? I have to decide what my characterā€™s back-story is and what life experiences they might have had. Once I have this nailed down, I know exactly how they will react to whatever happens in the story, and the plot then flows quite naturally.
