1. Can you tell us about your journey as a writer? What inspired you to start writing?
My name is Lisa DiCicco Cognato. I have been an educator for the last 25 years. I was inspired to become a writer because I know how beneficial storytelling is for children to learn so once I was blessed with my service dog that helps me in my everyday tasks, I knew where I wanted to begin. I wanted to teach the message I’ve always taught, which is inclusivity.
2. How do you develop your characters? Do you draw inspiration from real-life people or create them entirely from your imagination?
My book is based on my real life experiences with my service dog, but through the eyes of my dog. The rules which has to follow and the low he has for his job. I have a physical disability, and as I have gotten older, my ability has been a bit more of a struggle, however, with the use of my service dog, I am able to experience things the way they used to be.
